LCT will Present “Guys & Dolls” in 2019

New Bloomfield Lions Community Theatre (LCT) will present Guys and Dolls on April 4-6, 2019, at West Perry High School, Elliottsburg. Based loosely upon various short stories by Damon Runyon, this musical comedy debuted on Broadway in 1950. The show won a Tony award for Best Musical. Guys and Dolls has been revived many times since its debut, including a 1986 production by LCT. In 1955 a movie starring Frank Sinatra, Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons, and Vivian Blaine was released.

The perennial popularity of Guys and Dolls results from its clever story line, enjoyable musical numbers, and the all-around fun of watching the struggles of Miss Adelaide as she tries to get Nathan Detroit to finally settle down with her in marital bliss. Members of the audience for the 1986 LCT production may remember fondly a highlight of the show, Jean Sanderson’s rendition of “Adelaide’s Lament.” The men of the cast shine in several numbers, including “Luck Be a Lady.” Throughout the show there are laughs for all.

LCT will hold auditions for Guys and Dolls on December 10 and 11, at 7:00 pm, in the Parish House, 46 W High St, New Bloomfield. Complete information as well as a link to audition forms can be found on the Lions Community Theater Facebook page (please note the spelling of Theater). Sara Kawski is the director for this production, with Duane Wright as musical director and Monica Wright as piano accompanist. Guys and Dolls has 12 roles plus an ensemble, including 8 roles for men. Everyone who is interested in performing in this show is encouraged to complete the audition forms and preview audition materials that are provided in order to prepare for the auditions. Questions about auditions may be posted on the Facebook website.

Rehearsals for the show will begin on January 7, 2019, and will generally be on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings until the last couple of weeks before the show. Easter in 2019 is on April 21, so rehearsals will not be in conflict with Holy Week services.
