NB Lions Celebrate 80 Years of Service

The New Bloomfield Lions Club was chartered in October, 1938. At a recent dinner meeting the Club celebrated 80 years of service to the community. Although there are no remaining charter members still living, relatives of the men who brought Lionism to New Bloomfield were among the honored guests. These included Judi Darlington, Jonie Barret, and Jayne Merrit, honoring Lion Joseph Darlington; Lion Herb, Mitchell, and Nora Robb, honoring Lion George Robb; Ralph and Darlis Swan, honoring Lion Ralph Swan; Jeanne Fry, Charles Fry and Linda Wolfling, honoring Lion J. Walker Snyder; Lew Davey, honoring Lion L.F. Rothrock; and Lion Carson Holman, honoring Lion Edward Holman. Also present were Pennsylvania Lions District 14-T Governor Lion Keldeen Stambaugh, Immediate Past District Governor Lion Kathy Fouse, 1st Vice District Governor Lion Sam Wagner, and Lion Cathy Baker, representing the Waynesboro Lions Club and Region 4, Zone A.

DG Stambaugh spoke to celebrate the NB Lions Club and the work members have done for the community and Lions International throughout the history of the Club. Stambaugh presented certificates to Lions Stan Krammes and Red Adams, in recognition of their decades of service as members of the NB Club. Lions Nan Seidel and Peg McPherson were also recognized for their contributions to the Club.

Lion Norm Harrison was the main speaker of the evening. Harrison entertained the audience with anecdotes from the Club’s history. As table favors, Lion Harrison provided numerous historical articles from local newspapers detailing NB Lions activities over the years. From its inception the Club has sponsored the local Halloween parade. Other local Lions service projects include the annual Easter Egg Hunt; the playground, pavilion, and tennis courts located behind New Bloomfield Elementary School; and support of the Bloomfield Library, the Bloomfield Pool, and Boy Scout Troop 92 in New Bloomfield.
