Meet the Cast of “Urinetown”, LCT 2018

The evening of January 4, the temperature outside was frigid but the atmosphere inside the Lutheran Parish House in New Bloomfield was warm. Director Sara Kawski had chosen the cast and chorus upcoming New Bloomfield Lions Community Theatre production of Urinetown. They gathered that evening for a read-through of the play and an opportunity to hear its musical selections.

The players include both familiar faces and relative newcomers to LCT. Justin Lee is Officer Lockstock, who is both the narrator and a participant in the action. The role of Lockstock’s compatriot, Officer Barrel, is being filled by Duane Wright. These two help to keep order among the folks who patronize the facilities of Urine Good Company. UGC is owned by Caldwell B. Cladwell, played by Andy Harrison. Adam Sheriff is Bobby Strong, who doesn’t think UGC is being fair. Theatergoers will likely remember these actors from recent LCT productions. Additionally, John Sanderson, who has a long list of credits with LCT, will be seen this spring as Old Man Strong. This role, although not extensive, is memorable.

Familiar faces also include Lauren Maggs as Penelope Pennywise. Penny is one of the poor who is forced to use a less desirable UGC facility. She has a secret that is revealed late in the show. Casey Miller returns to the LCT stage in this production as Little Becky Two Shoes, another of the folks who are down and out. New to LCT is Jessica McNiven as Hope Cladwell, daughter of the owner of UGC.

Rounding out the cast of the poor are Catrina Gardner, Brian McPherson, Michelle Summy, Marlin Rice, Andrea Ortiz-Boyer, and Patrick Guyer. Caldwell’s allies include Erin Wright, Steve Todd, Jeff Kuhns, and Rita Metcalf. The supporting chorus consists of Adam Metcalf, Benjamin McNiven, Gloria McPherson, Kiera Metcalf, Jessica Hoffman, Kathy Miller, Leah White, Morgan Hatt, Nathan Sheriff, Saleen Hoffman, and Sarah McNiven. Cast members are drawn from throughout Perry County. The cast come from several schools and from different areas of employment, and include retirees with varied backgrounds. Their common denominator is their enjoyment of performing.

Urinetown will be presented on April 5-7 at West Perry High School. Lions Community Theatre is a major fundraising activity of the New Bloomfield Lions Club. Profits from ticket sales and support from patrons are used for projects to benefit the community.
